Surf Spots

Rincon
Rincon has long been dubbed the "Queen of the Coast". It's a great wave, and everybody knows it, so it's often extremely crowded. Rincon is a long, right point break with multiple distinct breaks along its mile long stretch. The beach itself is situated in between the Ventura and Santa Barbara county lines. Connecting the entire point is a ride over a mile long.  Here's a map

Hammonds
Just north of Miramar  and south of Butterfly beach, Hammonds is a classic right-hand break in Montecito. It takes a bit of a walk (unless you park in Bonnemeade, the private residential area right behind it) but it can be great on a north swell. Usually not too crowded.

Sand Spit
If you have seen any surf films that take place in Southern California, chances are you've seen Sandspit. Attached to the breakwater strip at Santa Barbara Harbor, this is a sucking, super-hollow barrel. Even on waist-high days you can see perfect little almond barrels funneling in. It typically breaks on big west swells, and when it breaks it will be half the size of Rincon. Sand Spit has a takeoff zone about 20 ft long, and when it's good there can be up to 50 surfers trying to drop in. Locals can get nasty.  Here's a map.

Leadbetter
This is an easy, crumbling, right-handed point break. Leadbetter is best for longboarding or paddleboarding. The crowd is friendly and its a good spot for novices. The beach is located in the northern corner of West Beach, just north of Stern's Warf. Here's a map.

UCSB and Isla Vista
Campus Point sits on the eastern edge of the campus, with a small right point break that breaks sort of like Leadbetter does. It can get crowded with lots of college students surfing there. Scattered breaks along the cliff-side beach lead west to Devereux Point, which is another right-hander with several takeoff spots. Further north from there (this is all walking distance) is Sands, which is a beach break with fun A-frames on a North West swell.

Hollister Ranch (aka The Ranch)
These beaches are inaccessible due to the owners of the private land, but you can get to it by boat. The breaks run from Gaviota State Beach all the way to Point Conception. Great waves, you can find a million pictures/videos of these spots.
